BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Over the past two weeks, we’ve reported on two different recalls from Hyundai and Honda.
Honda’s latest recall puts 700,000 vehicles at risk of fire.
Alina Solescu, a professor at Texas A&M’s Mays School of Business, told KBTX there are two types of recalls: voluntary and involuntary.
“The company could look at the warranty claims that have been filed, or the repairs at the dealership, and conclude there’s a pattern. They’re essentially just trying to avoid a more serious accident from happening. Or sometimes the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issues a recall because it says it’s noticed a pattern.” Solesk explained.
Solesk’s advice is to stay informed and frequently check the warranties on the products you purchase.
“When you buy anything, whether it’s a toaster or a car, always check the registration. If the registration is valid, the manufacturer will contact you,” Solescu added.
